Gaffer

Responsibilities:

  • Pre-production:
    Gaffers read scripts, collaborate with the DP and other crew members to understand the lighting requirements, and develop a lighting plan. They also scout locations, plan electrical needs, and estimate equipment and crew costs. 
  • Production:
    Gaffers oversee the setup and operation of lights, working closely with the best boy electric (the gaffer's second-in-command) and other lighting technicians. They ensure the lighting aligns with the DP's vision, troubleshoot any issues, and manage the lighting crew's safety. 
  • Safety:
    Gaffers are responsible for ensuring all electrical work and lighting setups adhere to safety regulations and legal requirements. 

Key Skills:

  • Technical Expertise:
    A strong understanding of lighting equipment, electrical systems, and safety procedures is essential. 
  • Leadership and Communication:
    Gaffers need to effectively lead their team, communicate with the DP and other departments, and manage resources. 
  • Problem-Solving:
    Gaffers must be able to troubleshoot lighting issues and adapt to changing on-set needs. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with producer
  • Work with Camera crew
  • Review storyboard for each shot ahead of time
  • Lights setup and read to go on "Quiet On Set"
  • Light place for perfect shot
